This sci-fi novel is based in futuristic San Francisco, California. Evening Spiker – Eve for short – is a rich schoolgirl who gets into a horrendous car accident and almost dies.

After a dangerous surgery to reattach Eve’s leg, her mother transfers her to her medical lab for the rest of her recovery. On the way to the lab, she meets Solo, a seemingly irrelevant boy who currently resides at her mother’s lab.

Evening has no idea what to think of this rough around the edges, surfer-type boy; so for a while, she tries not to decide on what her feelings are for him and instead focuses on the project her mom assigned for her to do while she was recovering.

Now, this project isn’t your typical poster board, cut and glue project, it has to do with genetic engineering. You see, Evening’s mom is the owner of one of the most advanced genetic research labs in the world and her project for Evening is to design the perfect boy. This may seem like a daunting task but Eve manages to tackle it. As the story progresses, some interesting things are revealed about the lab and Eve makes a couple discoveries of her own along the way.

Eve & Adam is a well written book, the dialogue makes sense and it flows well. Overall, it has a good storyline and the authors obviously took time imagining the characters and their backgrounds. A couple sections could have been explained more thoroughly and could have had more detail added to them that would have made the plot more interesting.  Michael Grant and Katherine Applegate wrote this book well, it wasn’t the best book ever written, but there have been numerous books written.

Eve & Adam deserves 3 stars, it’s not Shakespeare, but it sure isn’t garbage either.

Some other readers commented that, “Observant, smart, and unencumbered by emotion, this is a tasty read that readers will devour in a flash.”―Publishers Weekly, “It’ll make 'em laugh. It’ll make 'em think. You may want to buy multiples.” ―School Library Journal.

Any readers who are interested in sci-fi with a little rom-com mixed in, should definitely consider this book as their next read – they won’t be disappointed.
