MAC (Mountain Achievement Committee) (By: Derrick Chien)

The MAC began as the CAS project of a group of IB students. The one and only goal of this club, is to recognize people’s achievements. Academic or in-school achievements are not eligible to be acknowledged. The reasoning behind this idea is due to the fact that the main objective of the previous supporting teacher, Ms. Gibson, was to get encourage students to participate and contribute to the community.

The members of the club have the objectives of:

  • Demonstrating the great diversity of talents in our school
  • Increase student maturity by making them appreciate these achievements, rather than making fun of them
  • Changing people’s perception and judgment of someone by his of her marks

One of the great things about MAC is that the group does not uniquely recognize student achievements, but school-staff members’ achievements as well. You can read about achievements of teachers such as Mrs. Hu and Mrs. Schweers on the MAC website.

The club seeks achievements in areas such as athletics, and arts. Every month, five or more people will be interviewed to appear on the website, and the TV monitors around the school.

The MAC is having Chinese and Korean school-supply sales on February the 21, 22, 25, and 26 to fundraise money to keep the website running, and club-improvement purposes. You are invited to support this humble cause, and help revolutionize our school’s social environment.

Posters regarding the sales will be posted around the school with more information. The posters look like owls, the club’s logo, holding a sign.

If you want to join MAC, meetings are in portable 12, Fridays at lunch on week ones, and in portable 3, Fridays at lunch on week twos.
