Mountain Achievements Committee Recruitment (By: anon)

With saying goodbye to a multitude of grade twelve students that formed a great part of the Mountain Achievements Committee Club, the quest for new members has begun. This year, the club aims to be even more involved and accomplish even more that it did last year.

MAC is basically a club that recognizes students and teachers’ non-academic achievements to promote extra curricular activities, manifest the broad range of talents that exist among our student and teacher population, and demonstrate that academics and grades are not everything. In doing so, a flock of student writers, photographers, technicians, etc., gather weekly to target “achievers”, write articles to make them famous in the school, and throw them pizza parties.

Every month, a number of achievers are selected from the over 1200 students at Mountain, to be written about. The articles go on the club’s website, the achievers and their achievements are granted exclusive placements in the slideshows displayed on the hallway monitors, and pizza parties for the achievers are organized every three months or so.

Fundraisers are coordinated a couple of times throughout the school year. For instance, last year, the club hosted an Asian stationary supplies’ sale at the school foyer. This year, MAC looks forward to selling snacks such as donuts, caramel apples, and bubble tea. The profits from the fundraisers go to pizza parties and the club website, with leftover money headed to good causes.

The club fully runs on volunteer members. In return for time, effort, and work, members are given volunteer and CAS hours. An introductory recruitment meeting took place on Monday, September the 23rd, in which aspiring members were introduced to what the club stands for, how the system functions, and what their roles could be.

Meetings are on Fridays in portable 5 on week one’s, and portable 3 on week two’s, during lunchtime. Feel free to bring your lunch to the meetings, where the tasks and goals of the week will be discussed.
