Percy Jackson is a young teen age boy who has been thrown into a world of myth that contains centaurs, satyrs, gods and goddesses. He is a demigod and the only son of Greek God Poseidon. In Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Percy is blamed for stealing his uncle Zeus’s lightning bolt, and will be given a chance to return the bolt within 14 days or a war will start between the gods. Percy and his new friends, Annabeth and Grover leave the safe haven of Camp Half-Blood to find the bolt and return it to Zeus.

This time, to save his beloved camp, Percy and his friends must go on a quest to the infamous Sea of Monsters to retrieve the mythical Golden Fleece which is currently in the possession of Polyphemus, a full grown, evil, huge, and hungry for demigods, cyclops. In order to complete this daunting task, Percy must unite with some surprising companions and fight an old friend.

Sea of Monsters was a very well made movie overall. The acting has improved since the previous movie, some key characters have been added and the visual effects have been enhanced. The screenplay was decent, but lacked drama and suspense that would have made the movie much more believable.

The actors seem much closer and seemed to have worked better together in this movie. The amount of work put into this movie seems to have doubled compared to its predecessor, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: the Lightning Thief, released in 2010.

Other students were very interested in the Sea of Monsters. One commented that, “It was a really good movie and I loved the fact that they gave Percy a brother, I thought that was really cool.” Another noted that, “I didn’t like it because it was predictable and not surprising at all whatsoever.”

All in all, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters seems to have received some mixed opinions but is in general, a good movie, much better than Percy Jackson & the Olympians: the Lightning Thief.
