Track and Field Season (By: Mark Zhang)

The 2013 Track and Field season has officially begun, and the R.E Mountain track team already has over 40 members. In order to join, an application must be filled out and handed in with an athletic fee of $40 along with a deposit for the uniform. Anyone can join as tryouts are not a requirement, though one needs to be reasonably good at an event to participate in it at the meets; for example, there is a minimum height that you must be able to clear in order to participate in the high jump.

Training for team members is twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 to 4:30 afterschool at the Langley Secondary School track. Bus rides to the training track are provided by the school, but athletes must be picked up on their own accord after practice. Proper attire for track and field is a shirt, athletic shorts,  running shoes, lots of water, and a snack if  desired. During competitions, the MSS Track singlet must be worn to represent the school.

There are five track meets scheduled in total for this season. The first meet, more of a practice meet, was cancelled due to not enough schools being sufficiently prepared. The second is the Upper Fraser Valley Championship on May 1st and 2nd at the Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford, followed by the Fraser Valley Championship at the same stadium on May 13th, 15th, and 16th. The final meet is for the Provincial Championships on May 31st and June 1st at McLeod    Athletic in Langley. Feel free to attend any of these meets to cheer on the MSS track team!
